Eligibility
|
Members who are under age 65 and reside in Canada are
eligible to apply for Accidental Death & Dismemberment (AD&D)
Insurance. Coverage is available on a Member Only or Member and Family
Plan basis. The Member and Family Plan covers you, your spouse, and
all your dependent children.
Member, as defined under the plan, includes either a
Certified General Accountant in good standing with their Provincial/Territorial
Association or CGA-Canada (excluding associate, honourary and retired
CGAs); a registered student of the CGA program; or a full-time
employee or a partner of a provincial or national CGA office or firm.
Spouse means the legal spouse of a Member, providing
there is no separation in effect, or an individual who has been residing
in a marriage-like relationship with the Member for a period of at least
12 consecutive months.
Eligible dependent children include any children who
are unmarried, dependent on the Member for support, over 14 days
and under 21 years of age; or under age 25, unmarried and
in full-time attendance at school, college or university. Mentally or physically disabled children may remain covered past age 21 if they are incapable of self-sustaining employment and receive full support and maintenance from the Member.

Benefit Amounts |
You can apply for coverage in units of $25,000 up to
a maximum of 40 units or $1,000,000. Your amount of insurance is
called the Principal Sum.
Coverage is available on a Member Only or Member and
Family Plan basis. If you choose Member and Family Plan, your Spouse
and dependent children are insured for a percentage of your benefit
as follows:

Payment of Benefit
If Injury results in Loss of or permanent and total Loss of Use of a Specified
Loss within 365 days of the date of an accident, IAP will pay the
benefit amount indicated in the Schedule of Losses.
Only the largest amount shown on the Schedule of Losses is payable for
all losses resulting from any one accident.

* In the event of Quadriplegia, Paraplegia or Hemiplegia of an insured
dependent child, the benefit payable is doubled, to a maximum of $100,000
for each dependent child.

Additional Benefits |
Waiver of Premium
If you are under age 65 and become totally disabled due to an
accident or sickness, all premiums due for AD&D Insurance for you and your family will be
waived after 3 months of continuous disability. Your AD&D coverage
continues at no charge to you throughout the duration of your disability,
up to age 75.
Education Benefit
If you die due to an accident and your insured dependant children pursue
full-time post-secondary education, IAP will reimburse post-secondary
education expenses up to 2% of your Principal Sum for each year for up
to 4 consecutive years for each child. Your children must begin a
full-time post-secondary program within a year of your death. This benefit
is only available under the Member and Family Plan.
Repatriation Benefit
If you, your Spouse or your insured dependents die due to an accident
outside of your city of residence, IAP will pay the actual expense incurred
for preparing the deceased for burial or cremation and for the shipment
of the body back to the city of residence, up to a maximum of $25,000.
Occupational Training Benefit
If injury results in your death, IAP will reimburse your insured Spouse
for the actual educational expense incurred for retraining to allow your
Spouse to pursue gainful occupation if he/she was not employed full-time
outside the home at the time of your death.
This benefit, which must be exercised within three years
of your death, is for a maximum of $10,000.
Exposure and Disappearance
If, due to accident, an insured person is unavoidably exposed to the elements
and if, within 365 days after the date of the accident, the insured
person suffers a loss due to the exposure, that loss shall be deemed to
be the result of injury.
Where, due to the accidental wrecking, sinking or disappearance
of a conveyance in which an insured person is riding, the insured person
disappears, and if the body is not found within 365 days, it will
be presumed, subject to there being no evidence to the contrary, and subject
to all other terms and conditions of the group policy, that the insured
person suffered loss of life as a result of injury.
Special Continuance Provision
If you terminate your active membership with your Association or CGA-Canada,
but retain retired membership status, your current amount of Accidental
Death & Dismemberment Insurance in force may be continued with no
future increases so long as premiums continue to be paid.
Retired membership status applies to those who have satisfied
the retired member requirements of their province or territory.

General Information |
Fully Portable Coverage
This insurance may be continued no matter where you may move, provided
you maintain eligibility and the premiums are paid as they fall due. Applications
for additional coverage can be accepted only from members residing in
Canada
Money Back Guarantee
Once your application is received and approved, you will be sent a Certificate
of Insurance. You will have 60 days to review it to ensure that it
meets your needs. Should you choose not to accept the insurance you can
cancel your coverage and return the Certificate within 60 days of
the effective date. You will receive a full refund of any premiums already
paid.
Beneficiary
You may name any beneficiary you choose for the Member’s Accidental
Death benefit. The Member is automatically the beneficiary for the Spouse
and dependent children’s benefits. All other dismemberment benefits
are payable to the Member.
Termination of Coverage
As long as you pay your premiums when they are due, insurance will continue
until the earliest of:
- the due date of any unpaid premiums;
- the date the Group Master Policy between CGA-Canada and IAP terminates;
- the end of the month coincident with or following the date your written request to cancel your insurance is received by IAP;
- the November 1st coincident with or immediately following your 75th
birthday;
- the November 1st coincident with or immediately following the date
you no longer qualify as an eligible CGA, student, employee, or partner;
- with regard to Spousal Insurance, the Premium Due Date coincident
with or immediately following the date your Spouse no longer falls under
the definition of Spouse as outlined under “Eligibility”;
- with regard to dependent children insurance, the Premium Due Date coincident with or immediately following the date your child no longer falls under the definition of Dependent Child as outlined under "Eligibility".
Limitations & Exclusions
No benefit will be paid for loss resulting directly or
indirectly from, or in any manner or degree associated with, any of the
following conditions:
- suicide or any attempt thereat while
sane or insane;
- intentionally self-inflicted injury while
sane or insane;
- declared or undeclared war or any act
thereof;
- full time active service in the armed
forces of any country;
- injury sustained while a pilot or member
of a crew of any aircraft.
