Accidental Death & Dismemberment Insurance

Despite concerted efforts by safety officials everywhere, Canada’s accidental death toll continues to soar. Insurance cannot prevent accidents, but it will protect families against the severe financial hardships that accompany sudden accidental death or dismemberment.

Members who are under age 65 and reside in Canada are eligible to apply for Accidental Death & Dismemberment (AD&D) Insurance. Coverage is available on a Member Only or Member and Family Plan basis. The Member and Family Plan covers you, your spouse, and all your dependent children.

Member, as defined under the plan, includes either a Certified General Accountant in good standing with their Provincial/Territorial Association or CGA-Canada (excluding associate, honourary and retired CGAs); a registered student of the CGA program; or a full-time employee or a partner of a provincial or national CGA office or firm.

Spouse means the legal spouse of a Member, providing there is no separation in effect, or an individual who has been residing in a marriage-like relationship with the Member for a period of at least 12 consecutive months.

Eligible dependent children include any children who are unmarried, dependent on the Member for support, over 14 days and under 21 years of age; or under age 25, unmarried and in full-time attendance at school, college or university. Mentally or physically disabled children may remain covered past age 21 if they are incapable of self-sustaining employment and receive full support and maintenance from the Member.

Benefit Amounts

You can apply for coverage in units of $25,000 up to a maximum of 40 units or $1,000,000. Your amount of insurance is called the Principal Sum.
